Job Description

Job Title: Adult Services Assistant

Job Classification:

 

  • Full or part-time (25 hours/week minimum)

  • Reports to Adult Services Librarian

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Staffing the main circulation desk including days, evenings, and two Saturdays a month

  • Ensuring the maintenance of accurate usage statistics

  • Assisting with homebound and outreach services

  • Providing basic instruction in the use of information tools to patrons

  • Supporting collection development by keeping the department materials organized, shelf reading, helping with weeding, and reviewing materials for damage or replacement

  • Upholding and enforcing library policies

 

Other Responsibilities:

 

  • Planning and presenting programs under the supervision of the Adult Services Librarian

  • Making & stocking displays coordinated by the Librarians

  • Supporting the library experience by tidying the library and readying it at opening and closing

  • Staffing the youth circulation desk and branch library as needed

  • Other duties as assigned by the Adult Services Librarian or the Library Director

 

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma

  • Basic computer literacy

  • Self-direction and resourcefulness

  • Attention to details and organization

  • Ability to work with the public in a friendly, professional, and responsive manner

  • Communication skills that allow interaction with other staff and the public

 

Desirable Requirements/Qualifications:

 

  • Work experience in a public library

 

Physical demands:

The employee frequently is required to:

  • Stand, walk, sit

  • Use hands and fingers to use scissors and handle books, paper, and technology

  • Speak and listen to others

  • See and read

  • Reach with hands and arms

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

 

Salary:

Per salary schedule; beginning wage $13.00 per hour, depending on previous work experience and education, nonexempt from FLSA
